The Kafala System Reforms
Qatar has partially reformed the kafala (sponsorship) system. Since 2020, workers can change employers without the employer's permission after completing one year of employment. Exit permits for workers who have completed their contract have been abolished.
Work Visa Process
Your Qatari employer applies for a work visa on your behalf. You enter on a work visa and complete medical checks and ID card registration within 30 days. All Sri Lankan workers must register with SLBFE before departure. Recruitment must go through SLBFE-registered agencies.
