IELTS or PTE — which is easier for Sri Lankans? My experience after taking both

I took both IELTS Academic and PTE Academic. IELTS: writing and speaking feel more natural, marking can be subjective, 13-day results. PTE: computer-based, formulaic — learn patterns and scores improve, results in 2-5 days. Verdict: PTE better for those struggling with timed writing. IELTS better for confident speakers. Both accepted by Australia, Canada, UK.

Dubai — employer is asking me to pay for my own work permit. Is this legal?

I received a job offer from a company in Dubai (construction project manager role). The offer letter looks legitimate but they are asking me to pay AED 3,500 for the work permit processing and medical tests upfront before they can issue the employment contract. I've read that in the UAE the employer is supposed to cover work permit costs. Is this correct? The recruiter is saying this is standard practice for their company because they process hundreds of permits. I don't want to lose the opportunity but I also don't want to be scammed. Any advice?

Canada Express Entry — CRS score dropped after I updated my profile. Anyone know why?

I updated my job offer details in my Express Entry profile last week and my CRS score dropped by 12 points. I didn't change anything else — same age, same education, same IELTS scores. The IRCC explanation panel doesn't give a breakdown of what changed. Has anyone experienced this? Could it be the NOC code I entered for my job offer? I used 21232 (Software developers) but my offer letter says "Senior Software Developer." Any help would be great — the next draw is in three weeks.
