Mandatory Employer-Provided Insurance (NHRA)
Bahrain mandates private health insurance for all expatriate workers under the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA). Government hospitals are available for emergencies but primary care for expatriates is mainly through private facilities.
Employers must enroll employees in NHRA-compliant insurance before starting work. The Bahraini CPR (Central Population Registry) card must be obtained upon arrival. Public hospitals charge expatriates unless insurance covers them.
Approved insurers: Gulf Insurance Group (GIG), Solidarity Bahrain, Medgulf Bahrain, Bahrain National Insurance. Monthly individual cost (employer-paid): BHD 30-80.
