Universal Public Health (ACC + Health New Zealand)
New Zealand has a publicly funded health system administered through Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand). All residents receive free or heavily subsidised GP and hospital care. The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) provides no-fault injury cover for everyone in NZ regardless of visa status.
Work visa holders are eligible for publicly funded health services if their visa is valid for 2+ years or they hold an open work visa. GP visits are subsidised (you pay a co-payment of NZD 15-45). Hospital care is free. Those on shorter visas should purchase private insurance. ACC covers all accident-related injuries for everyone.
Private health insurance options: Southern Cross Health Society, nib New Zealand, AIA New Zealand, Accuro. Monthly individual cost: NZD 60-150.
