Universal Public Health (NFZ - National Health Fund)
Poland has a publicly funded universal health system administered by the Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia (NFZ). Coverage includes GP, specialist, hospital, dental (basic), and emergency care at no direct cost. However, waiting times for specialist care can be long.
All employed workers in Poland pay ZUS (social insurance) contributions, which include the health insurance component (9% of gross salary, fully employee-funded). NFZ coverage begins from the date your employer registers you with ZUS. A PESEL number (national identification number) is required for NFZ registration.
Supplementary private insurance for faster specialist access: LUX MED, Medicover, Enel-Med, Allianz Poland. Monthly cost: PLN 100-300. Many employers in tech and finance offer private health packages as a standard benefit.
