Mandatory Employer-Provided Insurance (NHIC)
Qatar does not have a universal public health system open to expatriates. The National Health Insurance Company (NHIC / Seha) administers the mandatory insurance framework. Employers are legally required to provide NHIC-compliant health insurance for all expatriate employees.
Your employer is obligated to provide health insurance under the Expatriate Health Insurance Scheme (EHIS) before you commence work. Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) public hospitals accept expatriates with valid insurance. The Qatar ID (QID) must be linked to your insurance for claims processing.
Major insurers in Qatar: Qatar Insurance Company (QIC), Doha Insurance Group, Al Khaleej Takaful, AXA Gulf Qatar. Annual employer-sponsored plan: QAR 1,500-4,000.
